Shopify: Creating a collection and adding products to it

Step 1: Create an Automated Collection

  1. Log into Shopify and go to Products > Collections.
  2. Click Create collection (top right).
  3. Give your collection a name (e.g., "Gothic Apparel" or "Best Sellers").
  4. Choose ‘Automated’ as the collection type (this allows products to be added automatically based on conditions).
  5. In the Conditions section, choose:
    • "Product tag" is equal to "your-tag" (e.g., "gothic", "halloween", "witchy").
    • Products must match:

    • You can add multiple conditions if needed (e.g., "Product type is T-shirt" AND "Tag is gothic").
  6. Add a Collection image (optional but good for visual appeal).
  7. Click Save.

Step 2: Tag Products to Show Up in the Collection

  1. Go to Products and open a product you want to add to the collection.
  2. In the Tags section (on the right side), enter the tag that matches your collection’s rule (e.g., "gothic").
  3. Click Save.

👉 Shopify will automatically add any product with that tag to the collection—no need to manually update!


Bonus: Feature the Collection on Your Store

  • Go to Online Store > Navigation and add the collection to your menu.
  • Customize the collection page under Online Store > Themes to adjust the layout, filters, and featured products.
