How to Design a Shopify Banner or Website Graphic in Canva (From Scratch!)

First impressions matter—and your website banner is usually the first thing your customers see. Whether it’s your homepage header, a sale announcement, or a section graphic, a bold, on-brand banner sets the vibe for your entire site. If you’ve never made one before, don’t stress—Canva makes it simple, and you don’t need to be a designer to make it look amazing!

Head to www.canva.com and log in. Click the “Create a Design” button and select Custom Size. For Shopify homepage banners, a good starting size is 1920 x 1005 px—this fits most themes and keeps your layout crisp on desktop and mobile.

You’ll see a blank canvas pop up. On the left toolbar, click Templates if you want to start with a pre-made layout, or go straight to Uploads to drop in your logo, product photos, or custom design files. Use Text to add your biz name, a tagline, or a bold promo message like “New Drop This Friday” or “Shop Our Best-Sellers.” Customize fonts and colors using the toolbar at the top so everything matches your brand vibe.

To make your banner pop even more, you can add cool background elements from the Elements tab—try shapes, sparkles, shadows, or a subtle texture. Just don’t overcrowd it. Aim for bold, easy-to-read text and a clean layout that doesn’t get cropped on mobile.

Want to skip the design struggle? Diesel Designs offers Editable Website Graphics inside the Canva Template Drive—pre-sized and pre-styled for Shopify banners, headers, and section graphics. These are especially perfect if your brand is spooky, alt, punk, or bold AF. Just drag in your own info and download. 💀🔥

Once your design is done, click Share in the top right, then Download. Choose PNG for the best quality and upload it to your Shopify store via your theme editor. You’ll usually find banner upload options under Online Store > Themes > Customize, depending on your theme.

That’s it—you’ve now got a professional, branded website graphic that looks like you paid someone to design it. And with Canva + Diesel Designs, you can update your banners for every drop, season, or sale without breaking a sweat.
