Creating a Pop-Up for Your Shopify Site

If you’re not using a pop-up on your Shopify site… you’re leaving coins on the table. Pop-ups are an easy (and free!) way to grow your email list, announce product drops, or offer a sweet little discount to first-time buyers. And good news—you don’t need a tech degree to add one!

🛠️ Step 1: Use Shopify's Built-In Tools or a Free App

Shopify has built-in email capture tools if you're using Shopify Email. If you want more customization or advanced targeting, you can install free apps like:

Install your chosen app, and it’ll walk you through connecting it to your store in just a few clicks.

🎨 Step 2: Design Your Pop-Up Graphic

Head to Canva and create a new custom design sized around 800 x 1000 px for vertical pop-ups or 1200 x 600 px for horizontal banners. Add your offer (like “Join the email list & get 10% off”), a call-to-action (“Sign Up Now”), and your branding.

🔥 Want to skip the design work? Use a layout from the Diesel Designs Editable Canva Template Drive. These pop-up and banner templates are bold, scroll-stopping, and easy to customize for any promo!

💬 Step 3: Add the Pop-Up to Your Site

Once you’ve built your pop-up in your Shopify app, you’ll upload your Canva graphic, type your text, and set up the action—usually an email opt-in. You can choose when it shows up (like after 5 seconds or when someone scrolls halfway down) and who sees it (like first-time visitors only).

💡 Pro Tip: Always include an incentive—discount, freebie, early access—to boost signups!

📲 Step 4: Test It + Watch the Signups Roll In

Preview your store on mobile and desktop to make sure your pop-up isn’t annoying or broken. Test the sign-up flow yourself to be sure emails are being collected correctly and automatically added to your list.

Once it's live, promote the offer on your homepage, link in bio, and even in your emails for extra reach!
